Licensing & Carrier Cargo Coverage

Mercury Auto Transport is a licensed and bonded auto transport broker.

Mercury does not physically transport vehicles and does not provide the motor carrier’s cargo policy. The assigned motor carrier provides cargo coverage under its own policy.

Before dispatch, Mercury verifies the carrier’s active operating authority and confirms cargo coverage with the carrier or its insurance agent. Coverage remains subject to the carrier policy’s limits, deductibles, terms, and exclusions.

Customers should inspect the vehicle at pickup and delivery and record any damage on the Bill of Lading before signing.

What FMCSA Registration Means for You

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires all companies brokering or transporting vehicles in interstate commerce to register with the USDOT and carry an active MC number. This registration is not optional — it is a federal requirement that ensures a company meets minimum standards for safety, insurance, and operational accountability.

When you ship with a licensed broker like Mercury, you have a verified point of contact who is legally accountable for your shipment. Unlicensed brokers and carriers have no such accountability, which is how vehicles get lost, damaged claims go unresolved, and customers are left with no recourse.

Verifying a broker’s credentials takes less than a minute on the FMCSA website. Mercury’s numbers are listed above and are publicly searchable at any time. Note that FMCSA verifies registration, authority, and filings — it does not itself insure brokers or carriers.

Every Carrier We Assign Is Also Verified

Mercury does not work with unverified carriers. Every carrier we dispatch holds active FMCSA licensing, carries its own cargo insurance policy, and passes our verification process before being approved to move a vehicle.

Before any carrier is assigned to your shipment, we confirm their licensing status, cargo insurance coverage, and safety rating with the carrier or its insurance agent. You will never be matched with a carrier who cannot be verified. Coverage remains subject to that carrier’s policy limits, deductibles, terms, and exclusions.

What to Look for When Comparing Companies

Before booking with any auto transport company, verify the following on the FMCSA website at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov

An active USDOT number, an active MC docket number, current insurance on file, and no active out-of-service orders. If a company cannot provide both a USDOT and MC number, do not book with them.
